Shai Davidai afirmou que a investigação em curso contra ele é motivada por
questões políticas e visa silenciá-lo.
O professor afirmou que recentemente recebeu uma carta do Escritório de Igualdade de Oportunidades e Ação Afirmativa da universidade onde citava que havia um processo de investigação contra sua pessoa. Segundo ele, a universidade lhe deu uma lista de postagens específicas em suas redes sociais que provocaram a investigação, todas elas estavam relacionadas a “organizações estudantis que apoiam o Hamas e os houthis e que usam cânticos antissemitas em protestos não autorizados”.
O professor afirmou que nunca atacou diretamente nenhum estudante da
universidade e que nunca “miraria em qualquer pessoa ou grupo com base em sua
origem nacional, raça, religião ou qualquer outra característica protegida”.
Davidai também ressaltou na entrevista que não tem nenhuma antipatia pelos
palestinos que não apoiam o Hamas e que condena o preconceito contra os árabes.
Ao National Review, o professor americano criticou a Universidade Columbia por não proteger a comunidade judaica e israelense das organizações estudantis que “apoiam o terrorismo” e por ceder à pressão pública que está sendo feita por esses grupos. Ele disse que a universidade “não é um juiz ou um investigador imparcial”, mas sim o “acusador, o juiz e o carrasco”.
Davidai denunciou a investigação como um “ato de retaliação” e uma “tentativa
de silenciamento soviético”.
Na entrevista, o professor destacou a importância neste momento de se combater o antissemitismo no ambiente acadêmico, que está sendo o ponto principal de manifestações pró-Palestina que muitas vezes contam com falas e símbolos antissemitas.
